In Microsoft Teams (free), you can only delete a message or image you’ve sent in a chat or your communities. Deleted messages will be removed for everyone in the chat.
To delete a message or image you’ve sent in Microsoft Teams (free) in Chat or Communities:

Go to the chat.

Tap and hold the message you sent.

Choose Delete .

Tap Delete again to confirm. Your message or image will be removed from the chat.

How is content attached to messages managed in Microsoft Teams (free)?

If the attachment is an image, the attachment is deleted when the message is deleted.

If the attachment is an event, the reference to the attachment is removed from the chat but the item can still be accessed or deleted through the chat details.

If the attachment is a file:

Any time you send a file in chat, that file is uploaded to your personal OneDrive in a folder called Microsoft Teams Chat Files. If you send a file to a group, all current and future group members will also have access to the view or edit the file via a public share link.

Deleting a message with a file attachment does not remove the file from your OneDrive, it simply removes the reference to that file. If you want to remove or manage the files you have attached to Microsoft Teams (free) messages you need to go to the OneDrive website or app. Additionally, if you want to manage the permissions on a file without deleting it that can be done from OneDrive as well.
