Write and rewrite with AI

Get started

You can get started with the following steps:

1. Sign into your SharePoint site with your work or school account.

2. Create or edit a SharePoint page or news post, then select a Text webpart.

3. Create your first draft of text.

4. Look for AI on the right side of the rich text editor. The AI icon is on the right side in the command bar. Once selected, it offers two options:

   • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Auto rewrite

   • Adjust​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

5. You can select Auto rewrite, or choose from any of the options next to Adjust for AI to rewrite by changing either the length or tone​​​​​​ of your text.

6. Note:  AIrewrites the entire text in the rich text editor if you don't select any text. You can also choose specific text for AI to rewrite.​​​​​​​

7. AI will suggest text in the suggested text pane.

8. At the bottom of the suggested text pane, ​​​​​​​ you have the option to:

   • Replace the original text with the suggested text

   • Insert the suggested text below the original text

   • Automatically regenerate text

   • Adjust the suggested text by changing its tone or length

   • Or, you can just close the suggested text pane to discard the suggested text.

Important:  AI is built upon Large Language Models (LLMs), which introduces some randomness. It is always good to iterate and edit until you get the most ideal version. Also, always review and verify the result.

Auto rewrite with AI in SharePoint rich text editor

When using AI in SharePoint rich text editor to help you write, the Auto rewrite option automatically rewrites the existing text in the rich text editor. You can use this option to overcome writer's block or improve the clarity of your message.

You can choose to Replace the existing text with AI's suggestion or Insert below. If the draft provided by AI doesn't meet your needs, you can always press the Regenerate or the Adjust button until you get a version that you are satisfied with.

Instead of Auto rewrite your text, you can also choose Adjust to either Make it > Concise or Longer, or Make it sound > Natural, Professional, Casual, Imaginative, or Enthusiastic. ​​​​​​​

The content suggested by it can occasionally include incorrect content, due to the vast and diverse nature of Large Language Models (LLMs). You should always review and verify the content provided by AI before publishing.

Make it concise

Do your peers ever tell you that you use too many words? Did you know you could convey the same message with fewer words? AI is here to help! Use the Condense option to make your text shorter and more concise.

AI helps to change a lengthy announcement into a short, actionable message.

Make it longer

Looking to add more depth to your writing? The Make it > Longer option can help. It adds details, explanations, and examples to your text, offering more clarity and richness without changing the core message. Give your ideas the detail they deserve.

For example, AI turns meeting minutes or notes into complete ideas.

Adjust your text's tone

When using AI in SharePoint rich text editor, you can ask AI to change the tone of text. Depending on which option you choose, AI will try to adjust the tone of your text slightly to make it sound more neutral, professional, casual, imaginative, or enthusiastic without changing the original message.
