Summary

Windows usually detects and installs new hardware automatically when you connect it. If a device isn’t added automatically, you can add it manually from Settings.

When to add a device manually

You may need to add a device manually if:

  • The device isn’t detected when you connect it.

  • The device uses Bluetooth or wireless pairing.

  • You’re setting up a new external accessory.

Add a hardware device in Windows 11

  1. On the Windows device, select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices .Open Devices

  2. In the Bluetooth & devices > Devices window that opens, select the Add device button.

  3. Follow the on‑screen instructions to finish adding the device.

Notes:

  • Make sure the device is turned on and, if required, in pairing mode.

  • Keep the device close to your PC during setup.
