Resolve these common error messages when you’re using the Xbox Music app, Windows Media Player, Groove Music, or Movies & TV, and you’re using DisplayPort or HDMI to connect with your monitor.

The errors below might appear when you wake your Windows 10 or Windows 8.1 device from sleep.  That’s because the audio is turned off when the Windows device is put into sleep mode or turned off.

Tip:
To avoid these error messages, consider connecting another audio output device to the system. Xbox Music, Windows Media Player, Groove Music, or Movies & TV will switch to that audio device when the monitor is powered off and then back to the monitor when the monitor is powered back on. No error messages will be displayed.

First, try closing and then re-opening your audio or video file after the error message is displayed. This might be all it takes to resume your audio or video playback. If not, try the following.

Error message: Can't play. 0xc00d11d1 (0xc00d4e86)
If you see this error message in the Xbox Music app on Windows 8.1, make sure that your computer's sound and video cards are working and have the latest drivers, then try again. For more info, see Download and install drivers in Windows 8.1 or Update drivers manually in Windows

Error message:  Can't play. We couldn't find your audio device.  0xc00d4e86 (0xc00d4e86) (0x00d6d6f) (0x80004002)
This error message appears when you’re using Groove Music or Movies & TV on a Windows 10 device. Check that your headphones or speakers are connected, and if that's not it, you can go to the desktop and select the speaker icon in the system tray for more help.
