Symptoms
Microsoft Forefront Unified Access Gateway (UAG) allows a client endpoint to access the RemoteApp applications and remote desktops that are published by using a Forefront UAG Web portal.
Consider the following scenario:
- You have a computer that is running Windows 7 that includes the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) 7.0 client.
- You try to open a remote application or a remote desktop by using Forefront UAG.
In this scenario, you receive the following error message:

Cause
This issue occurs because the computer that is running the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client issues a session cookie that exceeds 840 Unicode characters.
The Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) 7.0 client supports authentication against a Forefront UAG server that uses cookies. In the authentication process, the cookies are stored in the HTTP header. However, the size of the HTTP header exceeds its maximum size limit of 4,096 bytes when the session cookie is larger than 840 Unicode characters. This behavior causes authentication to fail.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, Forefront UAG administrators should install this hotfix on the following computers:
All Forefront UAG servers that publish Remote Desktop Services (RDS)
All managed client computers that are running Windows 7, that have the RDC 7.0 client installed, and that require access to published RDS resources
Note Users who want to access RDS resources and who have a computer that meets these requirements should install this hotfix.

Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

To apply this hotfix, your computer must have the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) 7.0 client installed.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.
