Your child needs your help and consent to continue to access many Microsoft products, websites, online services, and apps like Outlook, OneDrive, Xbox, Bing, Skype, Windows, and Cortana. You’ll need to sign in to your Microsoft account to continue.

Important: Any accounts that haven’t been verified by November 4, 2024 will be permanently closed and all the associated personal data will be deleted, such as achievements, gamertag, entitlements, emails, and pictures in OneDrive.

Children's privacy and online safety

Children’s privacy and online safety are very important to us. To create a Microsoft account, we collect the following personal information from your child:

  • Name

  • Date of birth

  • Email address

  • Password

  • Alternate contact info, such as a phone number, for security purposes.

Once the Microsoft account is created, we collect a unique device ID and additional information provided by the child or by the parent, including gender, country/region, and ZIP/postal code.

We also collect information generated through the child’s use of Microsoft services, such as the games and apps played, game statistics, content (including text and images) uploaded to the service, purchase history, performance data, and similar information.

Your child might share information when using or communicating with others through Microsoft online services, products, and apps. For example, Xbox Live displays your child's online presence and gamertag to others using the service. Your child may be able to chat with others and make friend connections. Xbox Live also shares gamertag, usage data, and other information with third-party game and app publishers when your child interacts with those games or apps.

You can manage your child’s information, adjust settings, and add parental controls through your family account when you’re signed in to the Family Portal

.

Family settings and controls

We believe parents should have choices about their child’s online activities. We recommend you sign in to the Family Portal with your Microsoft account and take a look at your family settings. That’s where you’ll manage your child’s account and set restrictions to keep them safer online.

Need to update your child’s profile information? Go to the Family Portal, sign in with your account, and then scroll down and select Manage my child’s profile information. Find your child’s name and select Edit this child’s personal information.

Want to manage privacy and online safety settings for your child’s Xbox activity? Go to the Family Portal, sign in with your account, and then scroll down and select Manage my family’s Xbox online settings.
