There are several different ways for family members and organizers to leave or be removed from a Microsoft family group depending on their role.

Before leaving, family members and organizers should remove saved places and location alerts they would not like to remain in the group. Location alerts must be removed by the individual who set them for saved places to be deleted. Leaving or being removed from a family group will not delete Microsoft accounts.

  1. Using a web browser, visit family.microsoft.com.

  2. Log into your Family Safety account.

  3. Confirm with your family group’s organizer that there is at least one other family member in your family group before you leave. Family groups without an organizer and at least one other family member will be deleted.

  4. Click More options. From the dropdown menu, select Leave family group > Remove.

  1. Using a web browser, visit family.microsoft.com.

  2. Log into your Family Safety account.

  3. Make sure there will be at least one more organizer and family member in your family group before you leave. Family groups without an organizer and at least one other family member will be deleted.

  4. Remove all family member consent permissions you hold by following the steps below.

    1. Click Manage my child’s profile info and find your family member.

    2. Select Remove consent for this child’s account.

  5. Once all held consent is removed, select Leave family group.

  1. Using a web browser, visit family.microsoft.com.

  2. Log into your Family Safety account.

  3. Confirm that there is at least one other family organizer or member in your family group before removing family member. Family groups without an organizer and at least one other family member will be deleted.

  4. If your family member required consent to join the family group, consent must be removed by the consenting organizer by following the steps below.

    1. Click Manage my child’s profile info and find your family member.

    2. Select Remove consent for this child’s account.

  5. Navigate back to family group.

  6. Click More options under the family member you would like to remove from your family group. Select Remove from family group > Remove.

Only organizers of a family group can remove family members.
