Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You run a Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3-based run-time image on a device.

  • The image includes at least one East Asian font set. For example, the image includes MS Mincho, MS Gothic, or MS UI Gothic.

  • You set Japanese, Chinese, or Korean as the default system locale.

  • You enable the ClearType feature by setting the ClearType registry subkey in the following path to 1:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI

In this scenario, East Asian characters appear garbled.

Cause

This issue occurs because different ClearType feature statuses are opened for base fonts and for linked fonts.
