Summary

Windows Small Business Server (Windows SBS) 2008 Update Rollup 6 is now available.

This update addresses the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article.

Issue 1

A computer that is running Windows 8 cannot be joined to Windows SBS 2008 by using client deployment tools.

Note This issue occurs because Windows SBS 2008 does not support client computers that are running Windows 8.

Issue 2

After you run client deployment tools in Windows SBS 2008, Windows Store apps do not work on client computers that are running Windows 8.

Note The update that is described in this article adds support for user profile migration. 

Issue 3

You cannot connect remotely connect to a Windows 8 client computer from the Remote Web Access webpage.

Prerequisites

To apply this update, you must be running Windows SBS 2008.

Restart requirement

You may have to restart the computer after you apply this update. To avoid restarting the computer, exit all applications before you install this update. This includes the Windows Small Business Server console.

Update replacement information

This update rollup replaces the update rollup that is described in KB article 2458094.

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the

Time Zone tab in the Date and Time

item in Control Panel.

Removal information

After you install this update, the authentication mode for the http://companyweb website is changed from NTLM authentication to Kerberos authentication. We strongly recommend that you use Kerberos authentication instead of NTLM authentication.

You can remove this update by using the Programs and Features item in Control Panel. However, you must manually change the authentication mode of the http://companyweb website after you remove this update. To revert to the authentication mode for the http://companyweb website that was used before you installed this update, follow these steps:

  1. Click

    Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration.

  2. On the

    Application Management tab, click

    Authentication providers.

  3. In the Web Application list, select the web application that uses the http://companyweb website.

  4. Click the

    Default zone.

  5. On the

    Edit Authentication page, click

    NTLM for IIS Authentication Settings, and then click

    Save.
