How to get and install the update

Method 1: Windows Update

This security update is available through Windows Update. When you turn on automatic updating and plug in affected Microsoft wireless mouse device the first time, this security update will be downloaded and installed automatically. For more information about how to turn on automatic updating, see Get security updates automatically.

How to verify that the update was installed

  1. Click Start, type run, and then select Run.
  2. Enter %SystemRoot%\system32\DriverStore\FileRepository, and then click OK.
  3. In the FileRepository folder, search to see whether there are two folders. One folder has the name of the wirelesskeyboardfilter.inf string and the other folder has the name of the wirelessdevice.inf string.

    Note If there are multiple folders, this means there are multiple versions.
