Symptoms

When you restore a database from a striped backup set that contains FILESTREAM data in SQL Server 2012 SP3, 2014, or 2016, you receive error messages that resemble the following:

Msg 3634, Level 16, State 1, Line 2

The operating system returned the error '32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)' while attempting 'OpenFile' on file_path.

Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 2

RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.


Resolution

This problem was fixed in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server:

Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous cumulative update. Check out the latest cumulative updates for SQL Server:
