Symptoms

When you insert data into memory-optimized tables in Microsoft SQL Server 2016, checkpoint file pairs of the memory-optimized tables may grow continuously. This eventually consumes far too much disk space. If you query the sys.dM_db_xtp_checkpoint_files Dynamic Management View (DMV), a large number of checkpoint file pairs that are in the PRECREATED state is returned in the result.
