What versions of Windows 10 are currently serviced?
Take a look at the Windows lifecycle fact sheet to see which versions are currently serviced.
How do I know which version of Windows 10 I'm running?
In the search box on the taskbar, type winver and then press Enter. This opens the About Windows dialog box, where you'll see the version of Windows 10 that's running on your device.
You can compare your version against what's listed on the Windows lifecycle fact sheet to ensure that your device is running the latest version of Windows 10.
How do I update my device?
For your personal device, Windows 10 automatically checks for the latest updates. To confirm you're up to date, go to Settings, select Update and Security and then click Check for updates. You may also visit the Windows Security page and selecting Verify you’re updated to manually update your device.
If your device doesn't update:
- Make sure that your PC is connected to the Internet. Also make sure you're using an unmetered network, because most updates won't be installed if you’re using a metered Internet connection.
- If you don't have enough drive space to install the update, you might be able to free up drive space to accommodate it.
- The Windows 10 system requirements page provides the minimum hardware requirements. If your PC meets or exceeds the requirements, use the Windows Update Troubleshooter to try to fix the problem.
If your device is running Windows 10 Enterprise edition or is managed by an IT professional, contact your system administrator to update your device.

What happens if I continue to use a version of Windows 10 that has reached end of service?
Your computer will still work, but it could become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses because you won’t receive new security updates or other quality updates. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you update to the latest version of Windows 10, as described above, and that you continue to stay up to date. Microsoft offers complimentary support to ensure that your device has the latest updates installed and requires that your device be up to date before assisting with other technical support issues.
