KB4338960 - FIX: "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" Stop error when enumerating contents in a SQL Server FileTable directory

Symptoms

Assume that you use the FileTables feature in Microsoft SQL Server 2016 and 2017. When the contents of a directory that is managed by FileTables are enumerated, and then a cancellation is issued, you may receive the following Stop error code message:

Resolution

This problem is fixed in the following updates for SQL Server:

• Cumulative Update 8 for SQL Server 2017

• Cumulative Update 2 for SQL Server 2016 SP2

• Cumulative Update 10 for SQL Server 2016 SP1

About SQL Server builds

Each new build for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and security fixes that were in the previous build. We recommend that you install the latest build for your version of SQL Server:

• Latest cumulative update for SQL Server 2017

• Latest cumulative update for SQL Server 2016

Workaround

This problem is reported to affect SMB clients most frequently. To work around this problem, change the time-out value in the registry on all client computers that use FileTable, as follows:

Type: REG_DWORD
Name: SessTimeout
Value: 600 (Decimal)
