Symptoms

Assume that you migrate mailboxes from Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 to Exchange Server 2016. You could receive a warning in System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), which indicates that the HealthManagerWorkItemQuarantineMonitor goes to an unhealthy state. In addition, when you check the managed availability monitoring channel on the Event Viewer, you might see the crimson probe has been repeatedly poisoned and then it's marked as quarantined:

Log Name: Microsoft-Exchange-ManagedAvailability/Monitoring

Task Category: Monitoring

Description:
Workitem "CrimsonProbe" (ID: 1218428940) has been poisoned repeatedly. As a consequence, the workitem has been quarantined and will not be scheduled to run for 24 hours. Notice that poison results are normally caused by workitem timeouts. Please investigate.

Cause

This issue occurs because the crimson probe's execution time wrongly increases to 10 minutes instead of the proper 5 minutes.

Resolution

To fix this issue, install Cumulative Update 11 for Exchange Server 2016 or a later cumulative update for Exchange Server 2016.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
