This article describes update 4484105 for Microsoft Word 2016 that was released on October 1, 2019.

Be aware that the update in the Microsoft Download Center applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2016. It doesn't apply to the Office 2016 Click-to-Run editions, such as Microsoft Office 365 Home (see What version of Office am I using?).

Improvements and fixes

This update adds Large Address Aware (LAA) capability.

It also fixes the following issues:

  • In some cases, when you input a Chinese phrase by using Microsoft Pinyin input method, Outlook doesn't keep the Input Method Editor (IME) candidate window open to enable you to select Chinese words as expected. Instead, Outlook inserts pinyin letters automatically.

  • When you edit a document with Track Changes on and complex content in the header or footer, typed text may become unreadable.

  • In some cases, when you save a document, it takes longer to save changes and the Progress bar updates very slowly.

  • Outlook may stop responding when you open a message with a large amount of non-inline content such as graphics or tables.
