Improvements and fixes

This update changes the default signature hash algorithm for Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (S/MIME) messages and enables the administrator to manage them by using the following registry keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\ \Office\<version>\Outlook\Security.

Note This may be overridden by a user setting.

Registry key 1:

• Value name: UseAlternateDefaultHashAlg

• Value type: DWORD

• Value data: Non-zero indicates that you should use an alternate default signing algorithm as specified by the registry key DefaultHashOID.

Registry key 2:

• Value name: DefaultHashOID

• Value type: String

• Value data: OID of alternate default signing algorithm. Default is SHA1 if this registry key is missing.
  Note This registry key does nothing unless UseAlternateDefaultHashAlg is set to non-zero.

Registry key 3:

• Value name: DefaultHashParam

• Value type: Binary

• Value data: ASN1 encoded algorithm params for alternate signing algorithm. Default is NULL if this registry key is missing.

1. Go to Start, enter View Installed Updates in the Search Windows box, and then press Enter.

2. In the list of updates, locate and select KB4486720, and then select Uninstall.

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then select Search. If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then select Search.

2. Enter windows update, select Windows Update, and then select Installed Updates.

3. In the list of updates, locate and select KB4486720, and then select Uninstall.

Windows 7

1. Go to Start, enter Run, and then select Run.

2. Enter Appwiz.cpl, and then select OK.

3. Select View installed updates.

4. In the list of updates, locate and select KB4486720, and then select Uninstall.
