Troubleshooting the Your Phone app

How do I check I’m using the same Microsoft Account to sign into my Your Phone apps?


In order to successfully link your PC and Android device, you should sign in to the same Microsoft Account on both. You can check this by following these steps:

On your PC:

  1. Open your browser and visit accounts.microsoft.com/devices. Sign in with your Microsoft Account.
  2. Check if you Android phone is listed under your account information.
     

On your Android phone:

  • If you have the Your Phone Companion app:
    • Go to Settings > Accounts.
       
  • If you have the Link to Windows app (for select Samsung devices):
    • Go to Settings > Advanced features > Link to Windows.
    • Review the email address under Microsoft Account. 

Linking your PC and Android using a QR code


If you begin the process to link your devices on your PC, this option will be available to you. You’ll need a PC running Windows 10 May 2019 Update or newer in order to receive a QR code in the Your Phone app.

On your PC:

  • To check and update your Windows version, go to Settings > Updates & Security > Check for update.
  • To confirm you are running Windows May 2019 update on your PC go to Settings > System > About and check your version number under Windows specifications. It should read 1903 or newer.
     

Resetting your phone and PC with the Your Phone app


On your Android phone:

  1. Go to your phone Settings > Apps (or Apps & Notification on some phones) > Your Phone Companion.
  2. Tap Force Stop.
  3. Tap Storage > Clear Cache > Clear Data.


On your PC:

  1. Open your browser and visit accounts.microsoft.com/devices. Sign in with your Microsoft account.
  2. You’ll be presented with a list of all your connected devices. For each, select Show details > More actions and then Unlink this phone.
  3. Select Start (or press the Windows logo key on your keyboard), then select Settings > Phone > Unlink this PC.
  4. Select Back to return to Windows Settings Home, and then select Apps.
  5. In Apps & features, select Your Phone.
  6. Select Advanced options > Reset.

Once these steps are completed, go to the Your Phone app on your PC and follow the set-up process to establish a new link.

I'm having issues with the Your Phone app when using Samsung DeX at the same time


Having both the Your Phone app and DeX open may cause issues with both apps. To ensure the best experience, only have one of these apps open at a time.

How can I change language settings?


The Your Phone app will match the language settings used on your PC and across all your apps. If you'd like to change the default language, here's how:

On your PC:

  1. Go to Settings  > Time & Language > Language > Preferred languages.
  2. Select “+Add a language.
  3. Choose a language to install, select Next, and follow the instructions to install it. 
    • NOTE: You only need to select the options for “Install a language pack” & “Text-to-speech and can leave “Set as my Windows display language” unchecked if you only want to change the language settings of your apps.
  4. Select your newly downloaded language and select the up arrow  to make sure apps appear in the language you just downloaded.
  5. Close the Your Phone app on your PC. Open the Microsoft store app, check for updates, and download the latest version of Your Phone app.
  6. Restart the Your Phone app. It should now be in the language you downloaded above.

If you already have multiple languages listed under your Preferred language in Settings , you can change your language preference by moving the desired language to the top. You need to close and reopen the Your Phone app every time you choose a different language from this list.


NOTE: The language of your Android device is set independently in the your phone's device system settings.

Why can't I use the Your Phone app as a non-default user or two phone mode user (available in Korea only)?


You may encounter two phone mode if your mobile provider is in Korea. The Your Phone app does not currently support two phone mode or multiple profiles mode. Please contact your mobile provider to disable two phone mode so you can use the Your Phone app.

If you have multiple profiles on your mobile device, the Your Phone app will only work if your mobile device is set to the default profile. 

Support for iPhone and iPad


To link your iPhone and Windows PC, you will be asked to install Microsoft Edge or Continue on PC as the companion app on your mobile device. Once you're signed in, you'll be able to instantly send web pages from your iPhone to your PC.

Provide feedback
