As part of Microsoft 365, Teams can load most Office apps to let you edit files without leaving Teams.

  1. To edit a file, open a chat, channel, or team and select Files or Shared.

  2. Select a file to edit. If the file or document is known, it will open in the appropriate app, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote.

  3. To switch to editing in the desktop version, select  Edit menu pencil iconEditing at the top of the app, and select Open in Desktop App.

  4. If the file doesn't automatically open, you can right-click the file and choose Copy link or Download, and then open the downloaded file or link from the desktop with the app.

Tip: Files open in Teams by default, but to change that, select Settings and more. and choose  Settings gear icon Settings. Select Files and links and change File open preference to Teams, Browser, or Desktop.
