"0x0000007E" Stop error after you install hotfix 2990941 in Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

Symptoms
This issue occurs after you install hotfix 2990941 in Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. When this issue occurs, you may receive a Stop error that looks something like this:

STOP: 0x0000007E (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)

Notes
  • The parameters in this Stop error message vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.
  • Not all "0x0000007E" Stop errors are caused by this issue.
Resolution
To fix this issue, we have released a hotfix.

Hotfix information
