Unexpected Adobe Flash Player error after security update 3087916 is installed in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2

This article describes an issue that occurs after you install security update for Adobe Flash Player: August 11, 2015 (3087916) in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2. You can fix this issue by using the update in this article. Before you install this update, see the Prerequisites section.
Symptoms
When this issue occurs, you may receive an error message that resembles the following message:

Adobe Flash Player
An ActionScript error has occurred.
