Internet Explorer 11 consumes high memory and CPU cycles after you install update MS15-106 

This article describes an issue in which Internet Explorer 11 consumes high memory and CPU cycles in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. A cumulative update and a hotfix is available to fix this issue. Before you install this hotfix, see the Prerequisites section.
Symptoms
This issue occurs after you apply MS15-106: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer: October 13, 2015.

Additionally, applications such as InfoPath that host MSHTML may also encounter a peak in memory consumption and CPU cycles.
Resolution

Method 1: Cumulative security update

To fix this issue, install the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. To do this, go to Microsoft Update. Additionally, see the technical information about the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer.

Note This update was first included in the MS15-124: Security update for Internet Explorer: December 8, 2015 (3104002).

Method 2: Hotfix information

Important If you install a language pack after you install this hotfix, you must reinstall this hotfix. Therefore, we recommend that you install any language packs that you need before you install this hotfix. For more information, see Add language packs to Windows.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that's described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

If the hotfix is available for download, there's a "Hotfix Download Available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section doesn't appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to get the hotfix.

Prerequisites

Before you install this hotfix, install the April 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (2919355) on Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2. Or, install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

Additionally, you must install MS15-112: Security update for Internet Explorer: November 10, 2015 before you install this hotfix.

Registry information

To use the hotfix in this package, you don't have to make any changes to the registry.

Restart requirement

You may have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix replacement information
