This article describes update KB3127988 for Microsoft Outlook 2016, which was released on December 6, 2016. This update has a prerequisite.

Be aware that the update on the Microsoft Download Center applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2016. It doesn't apply to the Office 2016 Click-to-Run editions, such as Microsoft Office 365 Home. (How to determine?)

Improvements and fixes

Removes unexpected disabling of add-ins in Outlook 2016.
Fixes the following issues:
- Assume that you try to forward an email message that's created based on a custom form in Outlook 2016. When you send the email message or close the original email message, Outlook 2016 crashes.
- "Disable COM add-in" warning is displayed when you try to use add-ins on a custom form.
- After you do a "find related messages" search in Outlook 2016, tasks may disappear from the To-Do bar.
- When you change the recurrence pattern of an appointment in a SharePoint calendar in Outlook 2016, the SharePoint calendar is out of synchronization, and the appointment isn't changed.
- When you attach an Outlook item to an email message, the list of messages in the picker window may display the "click here to view more on Microsoft Exchange" link. Nothing will happen when you click the link.
- When you use the /select command to select and open an email message in a public folder, you receive the following error message:

  Cannot start Microsoft Outlook.
- The display names of root folders in the navigation pane are displayed in lowercase letters instead of the capitalization of specified letters.
- When you print a calendar by selecting the Weekly Calendar Style, some day headers aren't printed correctly.
- When you view the Free/Busy information in Outlook 2016, Outlook 2016 crashes occasionally.
- When you use an app to add a persistent notification to an email item and then close the item, a Save dialog box appears incorrectly.

To determine whether your Office installation is Click-to-Run or MSI-based, follow these steps:

Start an Office 2016 application.
On the File menu, select Account.
For Office 2016 Click-to-Run installations, an Update Options item is displayed. For MSI-based installations, the Update Options item isn't displayed.

How to uninstall this update

Windows 10

Go to Start, enter View Installed Updates in the Search Windows box, and then press Enter.
In the list of updates, locate and select KB3127988, and then select Uninstall.

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then select Search. If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then select Search.
Enter windows update, select Windows Update, and then select Installed Updates.
In the list of updates, locate and select KB3127988, and then select Uninstall.

Windows 7

Go to Start, enter Run, and then select Run.
Enter Appwiz.cpl, and then select OK.
Select View installed updates.
In the list of updates, locate and select KB3127988, and then select Uninstall.
