Summary

This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Office file. To learn more about these vulnerabilities, see Microsoft Security Bulletin MS16-070. Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac includes versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint that are designed for the Mac and yet are unmistakably Office. The June 14, 2016, update provides fixes for issues in the Office 2016 for Mac Suite that affect Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Improvements and fixes

This update provides the following fixes and improvements.

  • Word

    • You can now export a document to the OpenDocument Text (.odt) format.

    • Add any command you want to the ribbon. (Office 365 subscribers only.)

    • Customize the Quick Access Toolbar to fit your workflow.

  • PowerPoint

    • You can now export a presentation to the OpenDocument Presentation (.odp) format.

    • Add any command you want to the ribbon. (Office 365 subscribers only.)

    • Customize the Quick Access Toolbar to fit your workflow.

    • You can export a presentation to a video and you can burn it to a disc, upload it to the web, or send it in email messages.

  • Excel

    • You can now export a spreadsheet to the OpenDocument Spreadsheet (.ods) format.

    • Add any command you want to the ribbon. (Office 365 subscribers only.)

    • Customize the Quick Access Toolbar to fit your workflow.

  • Outlook

    • Fix: The primary cause for CPU spikes that were affecting some users in 15.22.

    • Based on customer feedback, we have reintroduced the "Edit Message" feature.

    • Fix: AutoCorrect preferences issue.

    • Calendar color and overlay toggles are now included in the menu.

    • Fix: Several crash and freeze issues.

How to obtain and install the update

Method 1: Microsoft AutoUpdate for Mac

This update is available from Microsoft AutoUpdate. AutoUpdate is provided together with Office. It automatically keeps Microsoft software up-to-date. To use AutoUpdate, start a Microsoft Office program, and then click Check for Updates on the Help menu.
