AOL now requires users adding AOL accounts to Outlook to enable 2-factor authentication. More information can be found here on AOL's resource documents.

From that page:

  1. Go to aol.com.

  2. Select Login / Join.

  3. Enter your username.

  4. Select Next.

  5. Enter your password.

  6. Select Sign in.

  7. Once you sign in, you'll be taken back to aol.com, where you can navigate to your account settings, profile, and recovery information.

  8. Select your profile name.

If prompted, enter your Account Security Question and select Continue.
If you see the Account Settings page, follow the 'I see the Account Settings page' steps below.
If you see the Personal info page with Personal info, Account security, and Recent activity listed as options, follow the "I see the Personal info page" steps below.
