Introduction to AI credits and limits
Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, and Premium plans include the latest AI features to power your productivity and creativity. Some of these features have limits to the number of times they can be used within a specific time period while others require the use of AI credits. Limit and AI credit allotments depend on your Microsoft 365 plan. If you already have a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family plan, you can switch to Microsoft 365 Premium to access the highest limits available.
You may be able to use some features more frequently in the Microsoft Copilot app, such as Voice. These limits may vary based on the feature, entry point, and system conditions. Limits may also change over time as new AI models become available.

What are feature limits?
Feature limits are usage caps that help us ensure a good experience for all users. These limits apply specifically to AI features, such as Actions and Vision, and vary by subscription plan and feature, meaning the limits for Actions may be different from the limits for Vision.
These limits may vary based on the feature, entry point, and system conditions. Limits may also change over time as new AI models become available.
What are AI credits?
AI credits measure your use of AI features within Microsoft 365 and Windows applications. Each action you take involving AI, such as generating text, creating a table, or editing an image, uses a credit.
For example, asking Copilot to “summarize my inbox” would deduct one AI credit. Your AI credits will deduct automatically as you use Copilot in Microsoft 365 and Windows apps, including Designer, Create, Photos, Paint, Photos, Notepad, Word, and Excel.
What’s the difference between feature limits and AI credits?
Both allow you to access advanced AI features. Feature limits are simply the total number of times you can use a specific feature within a specific timeframe, while AI credits are monthly usage allotments you can use as you go in Microsoft 365 and Windows applications.
How do I manage my feature limits and AI credits?
You can check the status of your limits and AI credits by selecting Services & subscriptions in your Microsoft account. You will be notified when you reach your feature limits for AI features.
