Set the margin unit of measurement to inches, centimeters, millimeters, points, or picas.

Note: This change also affects the ruler and other measurements.

Go to Word > Preferences, and then under Authoring and Proofing Tools, select General.
Select the unit you want in Show measurements in units of.
Select OK.
