Change views on the OneDrive website

You can view files on the OneDrive website in different ways. To make it easier to find files, you can browse, sort, and change how the items appear. You can also view details or change the language.

Note: This information is for the website. For information regarding the mobile app, refer to Use OneDrive for Android or Use OneDrive for iOS.

Browse items

The left pane lets you filter your view of items in OneDrive.

  • My files - See all of your OneDrive files and folders.

  • Recent - See which Office documents you've opened most recently, whether you've modified them or not.

  • Photos - See all photos across your OneDrive arranged by date.

    • To show only photos from a certain folder or from all folders in this view, select the arrow next to Show folders from in the upper-right corner, and then choose the folder or choose All folders.

Note: The Photos option is only available if you're signed in to OneDrive home or personal with a Microsoft account. It's not available in OneDrive for work or school.

  • Shared - See items that you've shared with other people and that other people have shared with you.

  • Recycle bin - See items and folders that you've deleted.

Viewing options

There are three different viewing options. Select  OneDrive web viewing options  on the top menu bar to display the options:

  • Select  OneDrive web viewing options  to display contents as a list

  • Select  OneDrive web viewing options  to display contents as compact list

  • Select  OneDrive web viewing options  to show image thumbnails and previews as tiles

  • The View options icon changes depending on the view you are currently using, and the options you see depend on whether you’re signed in to OneDrive with a Microsoft account, or a work or school account.)

  • can only show image previews if the image size is less than 100MB (approximately 12000 x 8000 pixels).

Read more about File types supported for previewing files in OneDrive.

Note: To change the font size, go to your browser settings and select Zoom to zoom in or out. For more info see Make your PC easier to use or Mac accessibility shortcuts - Apple support.

Sort items

Documents are typically sorted by name, and photos are typically sorted by the date they were created. But you can change how they're sorted in the List  OneDrive web viewing options view. To make sure you're in the List view, select it from the View options on the top menu bar.

  • Select a column header, then select the display order you prefer. (For example, select the Name header, then select A to Z or Z to A.)

  • Alternately, select Sort to specify the order your files are displayed in, such as by Name, Modified, or Sharing. You can also select Sort > Rearrange to drag items into any order you want, and then save that order.

    • The Rearrange option is only available if you're signed in to your home or personal OneDrive with a Microsoft account. It's not available in Microsoft for work or school.

    • If you change sorting in OneDrive for work or school. those changes won't be saved after you log out. To save your Sort options in OneDrive home or personal accounts, select Save sort order under the Sort menu.

Resize columns

File names can be rather long, so you can adjust how wide the columns are while in OneDrive's List view.

  1. Mouse over the edge of the column header for the column you want to adjust (such as Name).

  2. When your cursor changes to a side-to-side arrow, left-click and drag the column edge to adjust its width.

View details

To display more information about items you select, select   Info to open the Details pane. The Details pane displays sharing information and much more. For photos, you can see information such as the camera used and camera settings. For photos taken on a phone, you might see location information. And for some photos, you might even see text that was extracted from the photo.

Change language

If you are signed in with a Microsoft account, to view the OneDrive website in a different language:

  1. Select Settings at the top of the page, then select the language currently displayed.

  2. Choose your language, press Select, and follow the prompts.

Note: For OneDrive for work or school, your language is set for Microsoft 365 rather than for OneDrive individually. For more information, refer to Change your display language and time zone in Office 365 for Business.
