If you're not sure which OneDrive version is better for you, you can review the reasons to choose the 64-bit version or the 32-bit version. Or, if you know what version you want, you can learn how to install it.

If you already have OneDrive, but you're not sure which version you have, see What version of OneDrive am I using?.

How do I install the OneDrive versions?

32-bit version

The 32-bit version of OneDrive is automatically installed on all Windows 10 devices. You can also download it here. If you have a Mac, OneDrive is only available in the 64-bit version.

64-bit version

You can download the 64-bit version of OneDrive here. Your install type will be preserved, although if you're using PerMachine, you'll need to run OneDriveSetup.exe /allusers.

Changing versions

To change from 32-bit to 64-bit or vice versa, use the links above. You'll need to make sure the version you install is the same version as you currently have, or newer. See What version of OneDrive am I using? for more information.

Your device will be automatically updated to 64-bit if it meets the requirements.

Reasons to choose the 64-bit version

The 64-bit version is the right choice if you plan to use large files, if you have a lot of files, and if you have a computer that's running a 64-bit version of Windows.

Computers running 64-bit versions of Windows generally have more resources—such as processing power and memory—than their 32-bit predecessors. Also, 64-bit applications can access more memory than 32-bit applications (up to 18.4 million Petabytes).

Reasons to choose the 32-bit version

The following computer systems can only install 32-bit OneDrive (check your Windows version).

  • 64-bit operating system with ARM-based processor

  • 32-bit operating system with an x86 (32-bit) processor

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the 64-bit OneDrive on ARM64 devices?

At this time, the 64-bit OneDrive is only for devices with an x64-based processor. For ARM64 devices, you should continue to use the 32-bit OneDrive.

Am I able to run OneDrive as I do today (per machine, with all GPOs, etc.)?
Yes.

What are the differences in performance between the 32-bit and 64-bit OneDrive?
The supported item count limit is the same for both the 32-bit and 64-bit.

Can I have both the 32-bit and the 64-bit OneDrive installed on my device?
You won't be able to have both the 32-bit and the 64-bit OneDrive on a device at the same time. You can seamlessly update from 32-bit to 64-bit OneDrive by downloading and running the installer.

Is the 64-bit OneDrive supported for both OneDrive for home and OneDrive for work or school?
Yes.
