Compress a picture

Applies To
Excel for Microsoft 365 Office 2016

The compression options in Microsoft Picture Manager reduce both file size and picture dimensions based on how you intend to use the picture, such as in Web pages or e-mail messages. To compress a picture:

  1. In any Microsoft 365 app (for example, Excel), select the picture you want to compress.

  2. Select the Picture Format tab, and then select Compress Pictures.

  3. Do one of the following:

    1. To compress your pictures for insertion into a document, under Resolution, select Print.
    2. To compress your pictures for publication on a Web page, under Resolution, select Web.
    3. To compress your pictures for sending in an e-mail message, under Resolution, select E-mail.

Some pictures will only allow one or two of these options.

  4. Select OK, and save the compressed picture somewhere you can find it.

Note

You can undo compression by selecting Reset Picture. Compression changes will not be saved until you explicitly save them.
