To start using GroupMe, you’ll need to register your phone number. This process ensures that you have a valid number linked to your account. After entering your email and password, you can complete the registration process by verifying your number via SMS.Â
-
Enter your phone number without adding any leading zeros.
-
Choose your country from the dropdown list to automatically apply the correct country code.Â
Note:Â If you receive a message stating "phone number not verified" when entering your number, it means that GroupMe is unable to register your number. This could be because the number belongs to a country that is not supported by GroupMe, or it is a type of number (such as VoIP or toll-free) that is not eligible for registration.Â
-
Tap Next to receive a 6-digit verification code via SMS.Â
-
When you receive the code, type it in to confirm your number. If you don't receive a code, see "Troubleshooting registration issues" below.

Troubleshooting registration issues
GroupMe will send you a one-time verification code via SMS to confirm ownership of your phone number. If you don’t receive your verification code via SMS:Â
-
Wait and retry sending after a minute or two.
-
Avoid guessing the code, as too many incorrect attempts may temporarily lock you out.
-
Check your internet connection and confirm that your device can receive international SMS messages.
