You can access your Microsoft 365 apps from the web — including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive, and Outlook.

The web apps allow you to:

  • Create, edit, and collaborate on documents and files. 

  • Send and receive emails. 

  • Maintain an online calendar. 

Notes: 

  • You can’t install the Windows or Mac desktop versions of Microsoft 365 or Office 2016 on a Chromebook.

  • The Android versions of Office, Outlook, OneNote, and OneDrive are not currently supported on a Chromebook. 

How to run Office apps on a Chromebook

To access Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and OneDrive, do the following: 

  1. Open the browser on your Chromebook and go to www.office.com

  2. For quick access, create a shortcut, or bookmark the URL in your browser. 

  3. Sign in with your personal Microsoft Account or any account associated with your Microsoft 365 subscription. See “Get started” at www.office.com for details about signing in and using the Office web apps.

Note: You can view files and do basic editing in Office.com if you're signed in with your Microsoft Account (it's free and you can use an existing email). If you have an Microsoft 365 subscription, you can sign-in with the account associated with your subscription to use more advanced editing features with Microsoft 365

How to run Outlook on a Chromebook

Do the following: 

  1. Open the browser on your Chromebook and then go to www.outlook.com.

  2. For quick access, create a shortcut, or bookmark the URL in your browser.

  3. Sign in with your personal Microsoft Account or any account associated with your Microsoft 365 subscription. For details about getting started, see How to get support for Outlook.com.

  4. To get to your email for accounts other than outlook.com, go to the website of your email provider — for example, gmail.com, yahoo.com, or aol.com.
