In Communities in Teams, a community can have multiple owners. When you create a community, you are automatically the owner, and you can make another member an owner as well. 

Note: Some community options might not be available on Windows 10, Mac, and Web. You can find these community features in Microsoft Teams (free) on mobile. Get the Teams mobile app.

You can update and manage a community you own. 

Promote someone to an owner in a community you own

  1. Tap the Home tab in the Teams app.

  2. Tap the community that you want to add an owner in.

  3. Tap the community name at the top of the screen.

  4. In the Members section, tap Manage.

  5. Tap the user you want to make an owner.

  6. Tap Make owner. The community member will be notified that they are now an owner.

Demote an owner to a member in a community you own

  1. Tap the Home tab in the Teams app.

  2. Tap the community that you want to demote an owner.

  3. Tap the community name at the top of the screen.

  4. In the Members section, tap Manage.

  5. Tap the owner that you want to demote to a member.

  6. Tap Make member.

  1. In Teams, select Community from the app bar on the left side of the screen.

  2. Select the community you want to add an owner.

  3. On the right side of the community name, select More options  Teams settings and more button > Manage community  Settings button, then choose the Members tab to see the members and their role.

  4.  Under Members, you can expand the member list.

  5. After you find the member, you can change their Role with the drop-down menu on the right side of their name. Select Owner.

  6. The community member receives a notification they are an owner. 

Demote an owner to a member in a community you own

  1. In Teams, select Community from the app bar on left side of the screen.

  2. Select the community that you want to demote an owner.

  3. On the right side of the community name, select More options  Teams settings and more button > Manage community  Settings button, then choose the Members tab to see the members and their role.

  4. Under Owners, you can expand the owner list.

  5. After you find the owner, you can change their Role with the drop-down menu on the right side of their name. Select Member.
