Important: Office LTSC 2021 Preview expired on January 17, 2022 and is now in reduced functionality mode. This means you can only read and print existing documents, but you won't be able to edit them or create new documents using Office LTSC 2021 Preview.

When you open an Office app, such as Word or Excel, you will see a message reminding you that Office LTSC 2021 Preview has expired. For example, you might see a message similar to this:

  • Microsoft Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021 Preview has expired  Most features of Word have been disabled. Contact your administrator or help desk for an updated version of Office.

How to fix this depends on whether or not you’re a volume licensed customer with an Office 2021 license.

Volume licensed customers

If you or your organization is a volume licensed customer that's licensed for Office LTSC 2021, your IT admin must update your Office LTSC 2021 Preview installation to Office LTSC 2021.

If you're the IT admin, see Update Office LTSC 2021 Preview to Office LTSC 2021 for more information.

Non-volume licensed customers

If you're not a volume licensed customer, you need to purchase Office 2021 to continue using Office. Or, to always have the latest version of Office and to continue to get new features, you can purchase a Microsoft 365 subscription instead.

After your purchase, do the following to get Office installed on your device:

  • Office on Windows   Before installing Office 2021, follow these steps to uninstall Office LTSC 2021 Preview. When you're ready to install Office 2021, follow the steps to download and install Office.

  • Office on a Mac   You don’t need to uninstall Office LTSC for Mac 2021 Preview. Instead, make sure you have at least Version 16.53 installed. Then, run the license removal tool on your Mac, and then activate your existing installation.
