Open or preview attachments in Outlook

1. In classic Outlook, open a message with an attached file. 

2. Next to the attachment, select the drop-down arrow   and select Preview or Open.
   
   To save an attachment, see Save an email attachment.

Note: To choose the application for opening the attachment, first save it to your desktop.

1. In new Outlook, open a message with an attached file. 

2. Select the attachment to open a preview of it. 

   A preview window opens showing the attached file on the left side and the email message body on the right.
