Repair a file

1. On the File tab, select Open and choose Browse. 

2. In the Open dialog box, select the corrupted workbook to open.

3. Choose the arrow next to the Open button and select Open and Repair.

   • To recover as much of the workbook data as possible, select Repair.

   • If unsuccessful, select Extract Data and choose Convert to Values or Recover Formulas.

Excel for the Mac doesn't currently have Open and Repair like Excel for the desktop. However here are several options. 

• Use the Mac Time Machine to roll back to a good version of the file.

• Recover files in Office for Mac

• Restore a previous version of a file without unwanted changes

Repairing a file isn't currently possible in Excel for the web. You can, however, repair a file in the Excel desktop app.

• To open the desktop app, at the top of the ribbon, select Editing > Open in Desktop App.
