If you can access a file on your device, you can share the file with other people in Teams. This includes files (of any type) that are on the Files tab of your channels and chats, in your OneDrive or other cloud storage, and on your local device. Send the file itself or send a link to the file.

Drag and drop a file into a chat 

If the file you want to share is available in your computer's file directory, you can drag and drop it into a message.

  1. Go to Chat on the left side of Teams.

  2. Select an existing conversation or start a new chat.

  3. Drag and drop the file you want to share into the box where you type a message and select Send. All the files you share in the chat are available in the Files tab at the top of your chat.

Try it in Teams

Share a file in a one-on-one or group chat

  1. Select Attach Choose file button beneath the box where you type a message, and then either OneDrive or Upload from my computer (depending on where the file is located).

  2. Select the file and then select Share or Open.

This will upload a copy of your original file.

You can also upload a file by going to the Files tab and selecting Share.

Share a file with your team in a channel

  1. Select Attach  Choose file button beneath the box where you type your message in a channel.

  2. Do one of the following:
    • Select Recent to choose a file you recently opened, and then select Upload a copy.
    • Select Browse Teams and Channels to choose from all the files you have access to in Teams, and then select Upload a copy or Share a link.
    • Select OneDrive or Upload from my computer (depending on where the file is located), and then select Upload a copy or Open.

You can also go to the Files tab and select Upload.

Tip: If the file you want to share is available in your computer's file directory, you can just drag it to the message.

To attach a file to a message

  • Tap Attach below the box where you type a message, and then select the file from your device or cloud storage service.

You can upload files to Teams on the desktop or web, and view them on your mobile device any time after that.

To share a file that's already been uploaded to Teams

  1. To access all files you've recently opened and your OneDrive, tap More  Microsoft teams More options icon.Files.

  2. Go to the file you want and tap More options  Select to see more options  > Share. 

  3. Search and tap a person or group name in the Chat tab, or tap a channel from the Channel tab.

Other share options

  • Next to the file tap More options  Select to see more options  > Copy link.
    This lets you share a link outside of Teams.

    Or

  • Tap More options  Select to see more options  > Send a copy.
    This will download a copy of the file to your phone. You can then choose how you want to share it.

To attach a file to a channel conversation or a chat

  • Tap Attach below the box where you type a message and then select the file from your device or cloud storage service.

You can upload files to Teams on the desktop or web, and view them on your mobile device any time after that.

Share a file that's already been uploaded to Teams,

  1. Swipe up from the navigation bar at the bottom of the app and then tap Files.

  2. Find the file you want in cloud storage or the list of recently opened files and then tap More options  Select to see more options > Share.

  3. Locate the person or group you want to share the file with by searching by person, keyword, or group name in the Chat tab, and keyword or channel name in the Channel tab.
