As of June 2024, the mini Teams experience in Microsoft Teams (free) will no longer be available to those using Windows 23H2 or higher. If you're on versions of Windows below 23H2, you will continue to have the Chat signature experience available. To get the latest Windows experience, select Start > Settings > Windows Update, then select Check for updates. If updates are available, you can install them.
In Microsoft Teams (free) you can change your status or set a status message.
Set your status message in Microsoft Teams (free):

Tap your profile picture or More .

Tap Set status message.

Type your status message. You can choose to @mention people specifically, choose to Showwhen people message me, and if you want it to Clear after a certain period of time or never clear.
Tip: If you prefer not to be disturbed, you can check Show when people message me and your status message will display above their message to let people know you're unavailable.

Tap your current status and select what you want to update to:

Busy

Do not disturb

Be right back

To get to your profile picture:

Open the mini Teams window in the taskbar.

From Chat in Windows 11, select the Open Teams button.

Select your profile picture towards the top.

Select Set status message.

Type your status message. You can choose to @mention people specifically and choose if you want it to Clear after a certain period of time or never clear. Note: The option to @mention and Show when people message me is not currently available in Microsoft Teams (free) for Windows 11.
