There are two kinds of add-ins: Office Add-ins from the Office Store (which use web technologies like HTML, CSS and JavaScript) and add-ins made by using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).

To determine whether any COM add-ins are loaded in Microsoft Office Word 2007, follow these steps: Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Word Options. In the navigation pane, click Add-Ins. In the View and manage Microsoft Office add-ins. pane, on the Manage list, select COM Add-ins, and then click Go.

Click File > Get Add-ins. Alternatively, you can click Home > Add-ins. You can directly install add-ins from this page or select More Add-ins to explore. In the Office Add-ins box, click Store tab. Browse for the add-in you want.
