About Microsoft Authenticator - Microsoft Support
You can use Authenticator to sign in to your Microsoft personal, work, school or other accounts. Authenticator can be used three ways: As a way to verify sign in if you forget your password. As a way to sign every time, by using a one-time password code to increase account security.

Set up temporary verification codes in the Microsoft Authenticator app
Open the Authenticator app. Select (+) in the upper right corner. Point your camera at the QR code provided by your identity provider or follow the instructions provided in your account settings. After your account appears in your Authenticator app, you can use the one-time codes to sign in.

Manually add an account to the Microsoft Authenticator app
Open the Authenticator app, select Add account from the Customize and control icon in the upper-right, select Other account (Google, Facebook, etc.), and then select OR ENTER CODE MANUALLY. Enter an Account name (for example, Google) and type the Secret key from Step 1, and then select Finish.
