Have Excel automatically fill your data when it detects a pattern. For example, the months of the year, the days in a month, or a sequence of numbers. You can also parse data, like splitting first and last names out of a column, or concatenate data, like joining first and last names from two columns.

You can use a simple formula to sum numbers in a range (a group of cells), but the SUM function is easier to use when you’re working with more than a few numbers. For example =SUM(A2:A6) is less likely to have typing errors than =A2+A3+A4+A5+A6. Here’s a formula that uses two cell ranges: =SUM(A2:A4,C2:C3) sums the numbers in ranges A2:A4 and C2:C3.

To see what is powering a widget, select More Options (…) in the upper-right corner of the widget, and look for the “Powered by” message at the bottom of the menu. Each individual widget is an extension of its corresponding app or service and is controlled by the settings for that app or service.
