Learn how to use Remote Desktop in Windows. On your Windows, Android, or iOS device: Open the Remote Desktop app (available for free from Microsoft Store, Google Play, and the Mac App Store), and add the name of the PC that you want to connect to (from Step 1). The user account name on a Windows device shows the name of the signed-in Microsoft account or work/school account. To change which user is signed in, select the Start button on the taskbar. Then select the account name icon or picture to see a list of users you can switch to.

Notes: You don't need a smartphone to receive a security code. Text messages may come from either "MSFT", a short number, or a mobile number.If you have requested a security code, you can trust the message that arrives.
