Safe mode starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services to help troubleshoot issues. If a problem doesn't reappear when you start your PC in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers and services as possible causes.

If your screen only has a Mini DisplayPort, you can set up the following connections—connect a USB-C to HDMI adapter to an HDMI cable then to an HDMI to Mini DisplayPort and then to your external screen. Keep in mind that the more adapters used, the more degraded the signal may get.

You'll see the logo screen on your screen. Continue to hold the Volume Up button. Release the button when the UEFI screen appears. If you have a Windows Pro/Enterprise device (not a Windows Home device), you can then toggle off Type Cover port from the Devices menu and exit UEFI. Check the device. If the device doesn't appear to work at all (no lights appear on the device when it’s plugged in, or the cursor doesn't move or doesn't appear on the screen), connect the device to another PC and make sure the device works on that PC.

Tips: If you don't see the OneDrive icon, OneDrive might not be running. On a PC, go to Start, type OneDrive in the search box, and then click OneDrive in the search results. You might need to click the Show hidden icons arrow next to the notification area to see the OneDrive icons. On a Mac, use Spotlight to search for OneDrive and open it.
