Update the device driver. In the search box on the taskbar, enter device manager, then select Device Manager. Select a category to see names of devices, then right-click (or press and hold) the one you’d like to update. Select Search automatically for updated driver software. Select Update Driver.

Windows 10. In the search box on the taskbar, type device manager, then select Device Manager from the menu. Open Device Manager.

Along with software updates for Windows 10 or Windows 11, it's important to make hardware updates, also known as updates for drivers and firmware. You can quickly check the health of your Surface drivers and firmware using the Surface app. Open the Surface app.

The Bluetooth icon is missing, or Bluetooth can't be turned on or off. Bluetooth doesn't work after a Windows update is installed. Bluetooth doesn't work after you upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10. Bluetooth doesn't appear in Device Manager, and there are no unknown devices listed.

Drivers. A driver is software that allows your computer to communicate with hardware devices. Without drivers, the devices you connect to your computer—for example, a mouse or external hard drive—won't work properly. Windows can automatically check if there are drivers available for new devices that you connect to your computer.

Windows 11. In current Windows 11 builds, we'll automatically fix certain critical problems on your Windows device to keep it running smoothly. We’ll also recommend troubleshooting for other problems that aren’t critical to normal Windows operation but might impact your experience.
