Security bulletin MS14-009 for the .NET Framework blocks marshaling for reflection types. The types that are blocked include the following and also any types that are derived from these types. Setting this configuration switch will enable an application to use reflection over DCOM.

To diagnose the Volume Shadow Copy service writer problem, run the vssadmin command immediately after the backup failure: Run. Type vssadmin list writers. This command lists the Volume Shadow Copy service writers and the current state of each writer.

To do this, you use a backup tool such as DiskShadow.exe to perform the backup for a local volume and for a server message block (SMB) file server remote volume. However, the backup is unsuccessful if the remote volume is added before the local volume, such as in a DiskShadow script.

NTDS VSS Writer is set to try autorecovery if the AUTORECOVERY bit is enabled. This bit is always set when VSS passes flags to the writers, even if the requester specifies that the snapshot be transportable and if the hardware cannot perform autorecovery.

After the LUN resynchronization, you create more VSS snapshots for the volumes. In this scenario, the snapshot creation operation fails. However, if you retry this operation later, or after you restart the VSS service, the operation may be successful. A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft.
