Journal message returns "ConversionFailedException"

Symptoms

A Journal message gets stuck in the submission queue and returns the following error message:

400 4.4.7 The server responded with: 550 5.6.0 M2MCVT.StorageError.Exception: ConversionFailedException, Content conversion.

Resolution

To fix this issue, install the following cumulative updates, as appropriate:

For Exchange Server 2019, install:

Cumulative Update 13 for Exchange Server 2019 (KB5020999) or a later cumulative update
For Exchange Server 2016, install:

Hotfix update for Exchange Server 2016 CU23 HU16: May 29, 2025 (KB5057653)
