Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:
- You deploy a new SharePoint Server Subscription Edition farm that has at least two servers.
- You create a search service application that has one or more search index replicas in a search topology.
- You install Description of the security update for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition: September 12, 2023 (KB5002474).
In this scenario, index replication between the components fails and causes the index replicas to no longer be synchronized with the primary index component.
Additionally, administrators might see a warning for secondary index partition components in the Search Application Topology section on the Search Service Application: Search Administration page. Administrators might also see "Search" area errors in the SharePoint Unified Logging System (ULS) logs that reference "SafeSerialization."
Resolution
To fix this issue, install December 12, 2023, update for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition (KB5002533).
More information
This issue affects only SharePoint Server Subscription Edition. SharePoint Server 2016 and SharePoint Server 2019 are not affected by this issue.
