Applications that use the AddEntry method may crash in Windows

This article describes an issue in which applications may crash in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2. An update is available to resolve this issue. Before you install this update, check out the Prerequisites section, and see the "More Information" section about the AddEntry method.

How to obtain this update

Important Do not install a language pack after you install this update. If you do, the language-specific changes in the update will not be applied, and you will have to reinstall the update. For more information, see Add language packs to Windows.

Method 1: Windows Update

This update is provided as an Optional update from Windows Update.

How to obtain the update from Windows Update

To obtain this update from Windows Update, follow these steps:

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. Or, if you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.
  2. In the search box, type Windows Update, and then tap or click Windows Update.
  3. In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
  4. If you see a message telling you that optional updates are available, or telling you to review optional updates, click the message to view the optional updates.
  5. In the list, select the check box for update 3054464 under Optional, and then tap or click Install.
