Summary

This article describes the issues that are fixed in the Microsoft Jet 4.0 Database Engine hotfix package that is dated July 2, 2008.

INTRODUCTION

This hotfix fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

  • When you use a Jet 4.0 database, a Microsoft Access 2000 database, or a Microsoft Office Access 2003 database, and you update data in a Jet 1.0 (Access 1.0) or Jet 2.0 (Access 2.0) database format, you may receive the following error message:

    Note

Unrecognized database format '<database file path>'.

If this or other failures occur when you access an Access 1.0 or 2.0 formatted databases, the database may have to be compacted or repaired after you apply this update. If you use the Compact/Repair option in Jet 4.0 (Access 2000/Access 2002/Access 2003), and the corruption is not resolved, you must use the Compact/Repair option in Jet 2.0 (Access 2.0), in Access 95 (Jet 3.0), or in Access 97 (Jet 3.5).

  • A Jet 4.0 database engine will leak memory when it queries ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) recordsets from an Office Excel worksheet that is open. Repeated queries may eventually cause Excel to run out of memory, to generate an error, or to stop responding.

  • Assume that you are using Access 2000 or Access 2003. If you try to use the SQL Native ODBC driver to link to a Microsoft SQL Server database that contains over 12,000 tables, you only see the first 12,000 tables in the Link Tables dialog box.
