Symptoms

When this issue occurs, all the running Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) sessions on the Remote Desktop Services (RDS) server stop responding, and the unsaved work on these sessions will be lost. Additionally, the Stop error message resembles the following:

Notes

  • The Stop error 0x000000AB describes the SESSION_HAS_VALID_POOL_ON_EXIT issue.

  • Not all 0x000000AB Stop errors are caused by this issue.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a memory leak in the Win32k.sys subsystem.
